Press Release - August 2, 2007

The Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) has announced that its September seminar on "Hot Topics in Business Law" will including Chicago trademark attorney Mark V.B. Partridge.  Mr. Partridge's topic is "Intellectual Property Update: Resolving Disputes with Cybersquatters."

"I'm delighted to be part of the distinguished program," Partridge said, "both because of the quality of IICLE as a provider of continuing education in general and because of the quality and range of presentations on the hot topics program."

Mr. Partridge is a partner with the Chicago firm Pattishall, McAuliffe, Newbury, Hilliard & Geraldson LLP, a boutique practice focused on helping businesses defend their brands.

Mr. Partridge is noted for his experience with domain name disputes and Internet trademark issues.  In 1998, he was selected by the United Nation's World Intellectual Property Organization as an expert on the domain name process.  He has served as an ICANN UDRP Panelist since 1999, issuing over 150 reported decisions involving domain name disputes.  In 2006, he was appointed as the American Bar Association's representative to ICANN.  He is also the author of the book Guiding Rights: Trademarks, Copyright and the Internet.

"Cybersquatting disputes continue to be a hot topic for business," Partridge explained.  "The recent announcement regarding the sale of business.com for $350 million is but one spark igniting the imagination of Internet entrepreneurs.  While much of the activity is legitimate, a growing amount continues to involve illegal infringement of trademark rights."
