The key to winning your case or to an effective settlement can be a solid depositon based on goals and strategy.  Given the cost of litigation, it is no longer acceptable to treat depostions as a "standard" or "routine" process (if it ever was!).   How you prepare and what you do at the deposition can be critical to your client's success. . . . and to yours.

I have seen cases lost because of poor preparation, where the client was either unwilling to take or to pay for the time needed to do it right.  I seen cases won where opposing counsel simply failed to spend the necessary time with a key witness.  The lesson: spend double the time in preparation (at least) as you will spend in the deposition.  In short, enough time so there are NO SURPRISES.

I will be speaking and moderating at a seminar on depositions in Naperville on August 14, 2007, hosted by Lorman Educational Services.  I encourage you to attend or call with questions about how you can benefit from the program (312-554-7922).  If you can't attend, but you or your company has questions about deposition. I'd be pleased to hear from you and share my experiences.

The program is available at online at Lorman's site.
