ICANN has given preliminary approval to two new gTLDs:

".mobi" for websites designed to be accessed by cell phones and other mobile devices.

".jobs" for the human resources community.

In October, ICANN had also given preliminary approval for two other gTLDs:

".post" for postal services.

".travel" for the travel industry.

The next step is negotiations with registries for the domains.  Actual implementation remains months away.

In a separate development, the ccTLD for Moldova, ".md" may soon be marketed for general use by a private company.  Similar arrangements in the past have resulted in the general use of other ccTLDs such as ".tv" and ".ws".
